Welcome to CLU Campaign

Join us in our search of inCLUsion for ALL kids...

Objective:

CLU is dedicated to making sure that ALL kids get to be kids. It is common that children with special needs are treated as patients first and kids second. CLU wants to help others see that regardless of limitations, kids need to be kids. There are many things (big and small) that we can all do to make this happen. This site will provide you with tools, ideas, and resources to make a difference in your community. Our hope is that people will see inCLUsion as an opportunity for positive change.

About CLU:

The CLU campaign is designed to help find ways to promote, improve, and establish inCLUsion for special needs individuals in our communities. To better understand CLU, first we have to understand "Special Needs."

Special Needs is a term that most of us have heard at one time or another. Usually when we think of special needs we think of either physical limitation/differences (wheelchairs, Down Syndrome, prosthetics, etc) or we may think of deaf, blind, autistic or mentally delayed. All of these examples are types of special needs. However, many of us don't realize that special needs covers much more. Between food allergies, diabetes, and obesity a large percentage of our country is on special diets. These diets keep these individuals alive, and these individuals have a type of special need. ADD and ADHD is another type of special need that affects a large percentage of Americans. There are too many types of special needs to list them all here.

I could site different sources and list supporting or negating views on who is and who is not considered to have a special need. I don't think that is necessary though. We all have things that make us special (different). Some of our differences are big and others are small. We all have something though. Maybe you have fallen arches, asthma, or you are near sited. These differences don't stop you from living a full life; many people may not even know you have them. Regardless of what your difference may be, it does not make you less of a person. This is how CLU came to be. Why should people with large differences be excluded from society? They shouldn't be. Their difference (just like yours) don't make them any less.

The term inCLUsion refers to ways society involves and includes special needs individuals. It is most often heard when discussing classrooms. It applies through out our communities. CLU is here to help find ways to include special needs individuals throughout our society. Each project on this site is a step toward a more included future. Please check out our projects and see if there is a way you can help in your area.

There are many inCLUsion efforts in place in our schools and businesses. CLU is focused on finding ways to expand on these efforts through out our community.
